Identify energy loss and save money with thermal images. |
Whilst thermal imaging has many applications it is in the area of assessing the efficiency of Buildings that is seeing the biggest rise. This is because buildings account for 40% of the EU's energy requirements and offers the largest single potential for energy efficiency. As a consequence legislation laid down by the EU and the UK is heavily geared towards buildings. When this is combined with the increasing need to for companies to demonstrate to their customers their commitment to reduce energy and CO2 and the ever increasing costs of energy, the need to make improvements to their buildings has now become a high priority.
As thermal energy is not visible with the naked eye the easiest and quickest way of detecting energy waste in buildings is through the use of thermal imaging .This is because it provides a unique way to provide a thermal overview of a building and helps identify exactly where there are potential problems. This minimises the need to disassemble the building ,which reduces down time, saves on labour costs and limits the disruption of the work force.
We carry out Thermal surveys using specialist thermal cameras which measure the heat loss using infrared technology. The information contained in these surveys can be used not only to reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions but for large energy users, who are subject to the commitments under the CRC energy efficiency scheme ,there will be additional savings as less carbon allowances will need to be purchased.
Heating accounts for over 40% of total energy costs for a typical commercial building. It is not possible to make a building 100% heat efficient but heat loss and corresponding costs can be reduced by 10-15%. Net savings will however vary depending on the improvement being made, for example improving the insulation of walls is generally more cost effective than installing new windows for like for like heat savings. It is therefore important that budgets are targeted at those areas which will provide the best net savings whilst balancing this against any legislative and company requirements. This is where our thermal surveys will help.
Commission Air offers two complimentary thermal services aerial thermal and ground based surveys.

Once refurbishment or repairs have been implemented it is good practice to have a follow up survey in order to validate the effectiveness of the work carried out. This will also provide a baseline when considering further improvements.
